Keeping it in the family. April in Braidwood

April 7, 2016 Basil Hall

Basil and his Mum, Diana (94), proofed some of the latest plates from Merrepen Arts this week in the BHE Braidwood studio. 20 new editions will come out of his March workshop in the Daly River region of the Northern Territory, and the proofs must be ready to be taken up to show the artists at the end of April. It has been great to have a pair of clean (and experienced) hands in the workshop. Many of the prints involve chine collé (or chine appliqué, as we learned the French call the process last week from our two French visitors, Camille Berthelier and Thomas Martin), so the extra staff member was much appreciated. Here Mum removes a Kieren McTaggart two plate proof from the press.IMG_5343

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
