King Island Workshop attracts 17

November 4, 2015 Basil Hall

Basil and Pam have just returned from King Island in the Bass Strait. Over 5 days, Basil, Andrew and Dianne Blake (local organisers of the printmaking workshops on King Is) helped participants from the island, from Tennant Creek, Sydney and Tasmania to make a variety of etchings using most techniques. Aided by Regional Arts SA, three indigenous artists: Dawn Blazely, Liz Pinner and Warren Mason came over to see how their skills would adapt to etching, while a number of locals were able to follow up after attending Basil’s workshop last year. Dianne Blake has her press currently on loan to the Cultural Centre, so King Islanders can continue to work on their plates after the workshop is over. Here, Basil talks to part of the group on the final day. IMG_5131

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
