Heritage Uncovered Exhibition at Canberra Heritage Festival in April

April 13, 2024 Basil Hall

Curated by Catherine Moore, the Heritage Uncovered exhibition, comprising the work of 29 artists from around the Canberra and Braidwood area, opened on Friday 12th April at Manning Clarke House in Canberra. There was a great range of work, including glass pieces, sculpture, paint on canvas, drawings and prints by artists including Alison Alder, Lucinda Boyd, Julian Laffan, John Pratt, Franki Sparke, Kate Stevens, Catherine Moore and me. I entered two pieces I did some time ago: a screen print depicting the confrontation between Adani protesters and the police in the Galilee Basin, and an anti Adani t-shirt I designed and printed for a rally at Parliament House. The heritage connection was the unlimited quantities of water from our artesian basin – a precious resource if ever there was one -that the government offered the coal mining giant in connection with its climate-damaging operations.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
