Yirrkala Print Space celebrates 20 years

October 17, 2015 Basil Hall

Balnhdhurr- A Lasting Impression is the name of a beautiful exhibition celebrating the first 20 years operation in Buku Larrnggay’s Print Space in Yirrkala, NT. The show opened as part of the Tarnanthi Festival in Adelaide on October 7 and featured a selection chosen from over 800 editions completed at the studio. Dianne Blake, Annie Studd, Marrnyula Munungurr, Dundiwuy Wunungmurra, Araluen Maymuru and Ruby Alderton have been influential co-ordinators and inspirational printers in the space, supported by the 137 artists who have made prints with them. I have been privileged to have been involved with all these people since Buku Manager at the time, Andrew Blake, and I dragged the press into an empty print room in 1995 and Marrnyula and her sister Rerrkirwanga made the first linocuts. Congratulations to all of you for curating this wonderful show, now on at the Light Square Gallery in Adelaide.Image 2

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
