Basil visits his great grandfather in Art Gallery of SA

While he was at the Tarnanthi Festival in October, Basil visited the Art Gallery of SA four times to view its permanent collection in addition to the outstanding Tarnanthi Exhibitions. He had to show off two paintings in the collection by his great grandfather, Bernard Hall, (the one at top left is by a former student of his: Margaret Preston) to several art industry colleagues. L. Bernard Hall was Director of the NGV for 43 years, taught in the Gallery School and travelled overseas to purchase works for the NGV for the Felton Bequest. His considerable contribution to the NGV, at a time of great change in the art world/world has yet to be officially acknowledged (not even the “hall” is named after him).
