Hopefully exhibitions may happen again soon. An Australian Alphabet hasn’t been seen yet!

At the beginning of 2020 I proposed a group exhibition to the Southern Highlands Printmakers as part of their/our program for that year. Each of the 26 participants drew a letter from the alphabet and addressed Australia in some way using a variety of devious printmaking techniques. Mine was easy – the country was ablaze at the time and I drew “F” out of the hat. Needless to say, with lockdown, fires, floods, hail, Covid and drought during the year, we had plenty of subject matter and time to make and frame up the work, but have yet to show it anywhere. We were booked to exhibit at Nancy Sever in Canberra in September-October, but that was postponed. Hopefully our other current booking, next year at Basil Sellars Gallery in Moruya, will go ahead. The Canberra one may still happen in December – fingers crossed.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
