ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PEOPLE ARE WARNED THAT SOME PEOPLE IN OLDER PHOTOGRAPHS ON THIS WEBSITE MAY BE DECEASED

Reminiscing during Covid has lead to the discovery of all sorts of old photos – both mine and those by Art Co-ordinators – of workshops I have run in remote places since the early 1990s. Narian Kozeluh sent me this one the other day of a group of senior male artists at Arlparra (Utopia), about 3 hours N-E of Alice Springs during one of a number of woodblock, etching and silkscreen workshops I did at the Art Centre back then. These old stockmen came in and made a magic series of etchings when I was running Northern Editions at CDU. We had to put their plates up on makeshift tables as the ants were voracious and kept eating the sugarlift off the plates as fast as they could draw them.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
