Our tenth series of prints with Djilpin artists from Beswick

August 26, 2021 Basil Hall

We finally went over to the “dark side” with these. Peter Eve, fabulous long-time Top End photographer now based in Queensland, took some great shots during our recent trip and workshop in Beswick. We decided to collaborate and incorporate his photos of each artist and the plants they were drawing into the finished prints everyone made. So this group of works, Series number #10 that we have made together since 2007, was done by printing their hand drawn etchings over digital prints of Peter’s photos. The digital prints were done first on 280gsm Hahnemuhle paper by Bytes and Colours in Canberra and then we had the job of overprinting with the inked up etching plates. This one, by Revonna Urban, has her beautifully observed lily leaves combined with an elegant reversed image of the same plant in the background. These are subtle and beautiful, and mark a new direction for the artists in Beswick. I am also now a happy fan of digital printing in combination with the traditional methods I employ.
