The big Hilton press has been installed

June 9, 2020 Basil Hall

Following a bit of drama with the double doors (who knew even the widest of sliding doors wouldn’t be wide enough for a Hilton press?), the press was finally installed in Canberra last week. The guys who built the shed came back and removed the whole unit, frame and all, allowing the fork lift access to gently deposit and nudge the machine into exactly the right spot. At last etching and silkscreen can co-exist on equal terms in Canberra, and a lot of commuting will be avoided in the future. Acid and aquatint still have to come in from the Braidwood studio, and there is still some building to do here, but the Covid 19 lockdown is definitely the time to get all this achieved before workshops and printing ramp up again.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
