BHE moving from Braidwood to Canberra

May 28, 2020 Basil Hall

I made the decision recently to combine our two studios and move the operation into Canberra, where I live with Pam. I love Braidwood, but running between two studios has been time consuming, and having a largely empty house in a small country town surrounded by fires during the recent “bushfire season” has been a worry. Yesterday, after having made room in the Canberra place for the Hilton, it was time to move the big press for the sixth (and penultimate?) time in 35 years. This time we did it with a crowbar, a pallet trolley, a crane and a huge forklift. Watch out for installation shots. Just need half a wall replaced at the other end. These things are 1.5m wide, so the big sliding door wasn’t enough to accommodate it.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
