Armidale comes to Braidwood

October 17, 2016 Basil Hall

Three Armidale artists, including Susie (at left) travelled down to work with Basil for three days recently. The Braidwood studio works well for groups of up to 4-5, and in three days we can expose plates, aquatint them, make hard- or soft ground drawings, use sugar lift…it’s all here. Susie made three separations on True Grain film (drawn on with Rotring ink), and these were exposed onto three zinc plates on our exposure unit and developed in the conventional way. The other participants, Lizzie and Lou, also gave the place a good workout, producing plates and proofs they were very happy with. Basil’s partner, Pam, and Basil’s mother provided food at crucial points and one evening we tasted the delights of Zac’s Paydirt Restaurant in Wallace St – a great place to meet and eat! Enquire if you have a group you would like to bring to Braidwood to do a workshop.susie-3

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
