Merrepen and Djilpin Arts editions at BHE in May

May 12, 2016 Basil Hall

This month we have an exhibition of new etchings to prepare for Djilpin Arts in Beswick (they will show at the walking with Spirits Festival in July) and Merrepen Arts in Daly River (their show is at Nomad Art in Darwin in early August). A mere 40 editions’ worth of plates to etch, aquatint, proof, RTP and print. SO, it means assembling a crack team, including Basil, Rosie Holmes and Mum. Here is the latter, hand-colouring a chine collé print for Christine Yambeing, who has done a few to show us what she wants. I can’t get a decent shot of Rosie or me, because we have barely stopped moving all week, and have knocked over 250 small, single plate etchings, many with chine collé. No point getting too cocky. We have to do the same again next week.Mum working

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
