Djilpin Artists in Beswick make new prints

April 30, 2016 Basil Hall

A relaxed scene at the Ghunmarn Art Centre in Beswick (new building works taking place in the background will add a new exhibition space and cafe) during Basil’s workshop for Djilpin Arts this week. 20 new etching plates will make up Gapu Series VII, continuing ten years’ of collaborative printmaking between Basil Hall Editions and the Beswick mob. Eleven artists scratched or brushed in their images (hard ground and sugar lift), as Basil etched and aquatinted their plates under the shade of the deck (seen here). The prints will be editioned in Braidwood and framed and exhibited at the next Walking with Spirits Festival in Beswick in July.IMG_5375

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
