Farewell and thank you to Mats

February 26, 2012 Basil Hall

As a result of the BHE move, staff members have all made plans for 2012. Tash and Nena have returned to tertiary study, while Senior Printer for over three years, Mats Unden, has headed over to Elcho Island, where his partner Sara is the new Art Centre Co-ordinator at Elcho Arts.

Going into the first person for a change, I would like to thank Mats for being such a fabulous printer for us since his arrival from Sweden in 2008. It has been a real joy to have someone of his ability on the team. Not many people in this country have run their own professional printmaking editioning studios, and Mats had had that experience for a number of years in his own country. I will miss him, but having initiated the big move, I’ll have to cope without him and the rest of the team until we are set up in Braidwood and Alice Springs and ready to hire again! In the meantime, I hope that Clinton will continue to do much of our silkscreen work, and I will have a number of part-time assistants to enable me to keep the etching and relief presses turning until the trucks roll up to take it all away.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
