We’ve been in some pretty grubby clean up rooms, but this balcony at the Skopelos Foundation in Greece makes a picturesque spot to work on your plate. Trisch Wilson-Adams only has eyes for her plate, though!
The first of two groups for 2011 is just into its second week of etching and relief printing. Thirteen Australians with printmaking experience ranging from 0-50 years have been joined by BHE’s invited artists Gria Shead and Mikael Kihlman (Sweden) for two weeks of Greek culture interspersed with some serious work at the Skopelos Foundation.
A special addition this year has been the brand new aquatint box, built by Basil, his son Jack and special consultant Robin (partner of Steph Bolt, who is here assisting the group of printmakers with Basil and Mats). The hand-cranked box was constructed in less than three days, when Basil first arrived, and put into operation immediately, with lovely velvety blacks being required for both Gria and Mikael, who are doing burnished “mezzotints”.
