Studio One 1987-1996 exhibition in Canberra ON NOW!

February 4, 2024 Basil Hall

On Friday 2nd Feb, Tom Middlemost launched a collection of 112 of my favourite pieces from my days as Director & Editioning Manager at Studio One in Kingston. Studio One Printmaking Workshop was founded by Meg Buchanan and Dianne Fogwell in 1982 and ran until around 2000 as an access workshop for etching, lithography, relief printing and other forms of intaglio and relief. It offered classes (adults & children), weekend workshops with skilled practitioners, a space for regular artists to come and make their prints and a professional editioning service for artists Australia-wide. The exhibition shows a bit of all this. Not everyone is in it: I could only show what I had in my collection of Printer’s Proofs and gifts from that time. It is pretty comprehensive, though, and offers a great overview of printmaking in Canberra and further afield in the 80s and 90s.  It is on until March 28th.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
