The first Indigenous artist to express himself as a printmaker was Kevin Gilbert in the late 1960’s. Some of those prints were proofed or editioned by hand at the time, and others were later editioned at Studio One in Canberra in the 1990’s when I was Editioning Manager there. Recently, a case full of some other old lino blocks of his was discovered in country NSW, and his widow, Ellie Gilbert has entrusted them with us for printing. An added bonus is that Kevin’s grand daughter, Kari, is assisting with the job. This photo shows the second of two colours going down on Bhoolbene Miggai Ritual.
