Back to Armidale, NSW

October 23, 2018 Basil Hall

The Black Gully Printmakers in Armidale operate out of a purpose-fitted-out workshop under the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) these days, and the sign on the door says so. Formerly a museum of old printing presses, the spacious room now not only houses old presses but also new presses and printmaking equipment for the aforementioned printmaking group. This was my sixth visit to run a workshop with the group. I was also in Armidale for the annual Packsaddle fund raising art exhibition and did a floor talk about the prints for sale. The picture (left) of Susie (who IS a member of the Black Gully group) is only here until someone sends me a picture of this year’s workshop (please!)

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
