Katie Breckon residency at BHE in December

January 10, 2017 Basil Hall

WA artist, Katie Breckon, visited in December, accompanied by several parcels of stainless steel and aluminium plates. Working with Basil, she etched the aluminium pieces, inked up the weathered steel and tried a large number of combinations on the Hilton Press. The larger plates went almost to the edges of the press, so the blankets were on and off regularly as they tried to get the most out of these found objects from Derby in the far north-west of the country. Katie works at Mowandjum Arts on the Gibb River Rd and is enjoying some time “Down South” on her own work in Braidwood and, now, in Fremantle. 15590904_1296321200410097_6387716363057727638_o

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
