April BHE Workshop at Mangkaja Arts

May 10, 2014 Basil Hall

Senior Mangkaja artist, Nada Rawlins, working on an etching plate during Basil’s recent workshop in Fitzroy Crossing. Nada was in a group of artists who came to Darwin in 1996 and made exquisite dry points at Northern Editions with Basil and Leon Stainer during the Kaltja/Business Conference that year. The hand is not quite as strong as it was on the zinc plate nearly 20 years ago, but the imagery is still there! Nada and the other artists attending, including Sonia Kurarra and Lisa Uhl, made a number of small colour etchings and silkscreen prints which will be printed at Basil Hall Editions in coming months.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
