Basil Hall Editions Relocating to Alice Springs

February 26, 2012 Basil Hall

After nearly 16 years based in Darwin, Basil has decided to head south and relocate his base. BHE will join Raft Artspace and Melbourne business Chapman & Bailey in Mike Gillam’s Hele St Arts Complex in Alice Springs in the very near future! The BHE Darwin workshop will close by May 2012 and most of the presses and equipment will be trucked to the new studio space in Central Australia. Basil plans to spend the southern winter in Alice each year, working with Art Centres and local artists from around May until September. He will base himself for the remainder of the year at his house and studio Braidwood, NSW and in Greece, where he will continue to run printmaking workshops for artists from all over Australia.

Two of BHE’s printers, Tash and Nena, are heading back to tertiary study in 2012 and Senior Printer, Mats Unden, has departed to join his partner Sara Higgs at Elcho Arts in East Arnhem Land. Our fabulous clients, from all over Australia, can still contact us as usual by email or phone until mid-May, when Basil will fly to Greece.  BHE is not going to stop working with Indigenous communities. We just need a refresher and a change of scene after a wonderful decade and a half in the NT. Each of you will be contacted directly to assure you we are still on the job!

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
