A message from Greece

July 10, 2010 Basil Hall

Basil and Mats have just finished a successful fortnight on wonderful Skopelos as guests of the Skopelos Foundation, along with nine artists from Australia, England and Sweden. Garry Shead, Christopher Croft, Belinda Fox, Judy Watson, Barbie Kjar, Adam Rish, Gary Shinfield, Mikael Kihlman and Peter Sharp, accompanied by their partners and, in some cases, children, travelled to Greece in late June for the first of what we all hope will be many such printmaking workshops. Here’s a shot of early morning Skopelos town by Basil’s partner Marj.By the end of the two weeks, each artist had made a number of etchings, drypoints, linocuts or woodcuts. It is hoped that the plates and blocks will find their way to Darwin in the coming months (having travelled home in the artists’ baggage) so Basil, Mats and the other printers can make final proofs and negotiate the editioning and possible exhibiting of the work in Australia.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
