Once the walls were painted, it was time to design and build benches along several sides of the room. Local carpenter Spiros came and worked with Basil & Steph for two days and got the ball rolling. Two beautiful Rollaco presses arrived from UK in three boxes, and, on the same truck, the first of the shipments of consumables came in from Polymetaal in Holland. Next we ordered a huge steel cupboard and a paper rack locally, and they also came over from the mainland on the ferry. In the meantime, our first parcel from Intaglio Printmakers in London was returned to them by suspicious German authorities, who didn’t like the look of a bag of whiting powder (calcium carbonate) or the hard ground.
