The artists who attended my collagraph workshop at Laughing Waters in November are all experienced weavers and/or image makers, so introducing a new medium didn’t represent a problem to any of them. Printmaking is a medium in which almost any artist can adapt their own existing practice, favourite tools and imagery without having to master “new tricks” necessarily. The collagraph has proven to be particularly accessible to painters, collage artists, sculptors, carvers and weavers. Here is Phillip, an arts worker from Milingimbi Arts Centre in the Northern Territory with one of a number of small pieces he made based on the weaving techniques on his country. We had a small press with us (brought from Canberra), so proofs were able to be made for all the artists during the workshop.
