Sturt Summer School Colour Etching

January 11, 2022 Basil Hall

I have just run my first workshop for the year (and the first for some time, because of you-know-what): at the Sturt Summer School in Mittagong. I first went there to run an etching workshop 30 years ago and have been 7 times since then. This year it was colour etching and in spite of Covid we had 8 etchers, some of whom I knew from previous workshops in Australia or on Skopelos. A great group. We worked on multi plate images, chine colle, a la poupée colour application, over-rolls and my pigment colour system, with even the beginner producing a beautiful colour etching on her first try! Thank you to the Sturt staff for bravely persevering with the School, in spite of all the potential problems, and for making us all so comfortable, well fed and entertained. Pictured is Setsuko Yanagisawa with her waterlilies.
