A great party on King Island

April 13, 2021 Basil Hall

The “Poor Souls” exhibition and associated events finally took place in March. Curated by Andrew Blake, the show at the Currie Art Centre included work by Fiona Hall, Melissa Smith, Andrew himself, Raymond Arnold, Catherine Stringer, Katherine Cooper, Dianne Blake, Basil Hall and lots, lots more! Meanwhile, Julie Gough and her mates Sinsa Mansell and Michelle Maynard erected a fabulous and thought-provoking installation. On the beach nearby, filmmaker Dave Meagher, composer Ian Moorhead, lighting designer Bosco Shaw, choreographer and dancer Lilian Steiner and costume maker Geoffrey Watson produced Fathom, which was viewed on a big screen. The Brian Richie Trio (Word Press can only fit two of them in this shot!) played every day, the weather behaved and the crowd loved it all. Congratulations King Island.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
