King Island Artists’ Residencies

Artists’ residencies are offered year round by King Island Council and their Art & Cultural Centre. I have generously been offered nearly three weeks here to explore and work on the beginnings of some prints which will look at immigration policy: past & present. The “catalyst” for this is the 175th anniversary of the sinking here of the Cataraqui, a British barque bound for Melbourne with 408 young passengers and crew. Over a couple of terrible days and nights in August, 1845, 399 people perished on the reefs right here in this picture. Only 9 made it ashore. And only one migrant.
