Gill Burke, seen with two of the participants at this weekend’s BIG workshop, has just helped Basil run a successful weekend with artist representatives from Albury, Central Coast, South Coast, Braidwood and Canberra. BIG is Baldwin’s Intaglio Ground, and is comparatively new in Australia, replacing many of the traditional and more toxic alternatives to hard ground, soft ground, block out and sugar lift. We spent two whole days in the workshop making new plates without resorting to bitumen, metho or turps! A real eye opener. I have been using his product as a hard ground for four years, but Gill showed show Andrew Baldwin had demonstrated the same product in use for all of these other operations, and more! Gill has just returned from doing a workshop with Andrew in Wales and generously shared her knowledge. BIG is available from Melbourne Etching Supplies in tubes. About $20.
