Skopelos 2017 kicks off in gorgeous weather

September 4, 2017 Basil Hall

It’s Monday September 4, and Davis Frazer, Pam and I have just kicked off Day 1 of our latest Printmaking in Paradise workshop on Skopelos Island in Greece. Here we all are on the verandah after breakfast doing our introductions. We have 12 participating artists, three staff and another 9 partners, friends and family make up the full party of 24 Aussies on the island. Day 1 has been spent looking at how to work from black (an inked up acetate plate) to white with cotton buds and various tools, in preparation for the first day of wood engraving tomorrow. Half of the group will work on different activities with each tutor for the remainder of our time here, giving us smaller numbers in each of the studios spaces.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
