A fortnight in the Buku Print Space, Yirrkala

June 8, 2017 Basil Hall

Basil has found himself doing a surprise stint at Buku Larrnggay Mulka, Yirrkala’s State of the Art art centre in N-E Arnhem Land. He will be there for a fortnight, training printers, helping generate some new works and doing some editioning with Buku’s current printers, Rebecca, Bitharr and Dhamala. In the first few days, we have built a new drying cupboard for the silkscreens, worked with seven artists on new etchings and screen prints and proofed some plates done during an earlier workshop. Watch out for some more photos in the next few days. Here is a (slightly older) shot of Buku until the new photos arrive.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
