Ramingining Workshop

August 12, 2016 Basil Hall

Basil is now out in the Central Arnhem Land community of Ramingining, making prints at Bula Bula Arts for the first time in many years. Established artists Dorothy Djukulul, Philip “Pussycat” Gudthaygudthay, Peter Mingululu, Roy Burnyila and Bobby Bunungurr were joined by others, such as Peter’s wife Shirley and Dorothy’s daughter, Joy for a busy 4 days of painting on acetates. Basil took out a print he made with George Milpurrurr from Bula Bula 23 years ago, and the artists (and especially his family) were interested to see his silkscreen and the actual acetates he painted under the guidance of Susan Jenkins and Susan Cochrane in the early 1990s.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
