Basil exhibits woodblocks at Altenburg Gallery

December 17, 2013 Basil Hall

Basil has recently shown two of his own woodblock prints (using the JDS process described in the previous blog below) at Altenburg and Co Gallery in Braidwood. The blocks were originally drawn and cut in Darwin over ten years ago, but not printed up until just before his departure from Darwin in 2012. Here the first of the prints, entitled “Sand Palm II,” is pulled from the press. The Iwaki paper has now adhered to its Magnani backing and the red ochre wash can be clearly seen coming through the Japanese paper from behind.

In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
