Art Melbourne a great success

The Art Melbourne stand was a great success. The Fair ran at the Royal Exhibition Buildings in Carlton from May 19-22 and our stand, which included an etching press kindly loaned by Melbourne Etching Supplies, was called Printworks.

Basil and Mats represented Basil Hall Editions, while Annie Studd and her team of printers from Yirrkala’s Buku Larrnggay Art Centre (Print Space) shared the stand with us. Ruby, Barrata and Dhapanbal brought their own plates to demonstrate with and inked up and ran off a number of colour etchings each day to wow the large crowds.

Mats and Basil used a three plate Garry Shead for their demonstrations and Basil explained how the plates were made by Garry whilst on a trip to Skopelos with us in 2010.

Overall the crowds were interested and both Buku and BHE made quite a number of sales. BHE had lots of stock on show, including new work by Garry Shead, Belinda Fox, Barbie Kjar, Adam Rish, Nyapanyapa, Gulumbu and Barrapu Yunupingu and the exciting new Series V Collectors’ Folios.

We are very grateful to the Fair organisers, Single Market Events, for the opportunity to de-mystify etching a little and show off what we do.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
