It is with great sadness that the printers at BHE have heard of the passing of a senior Kimberley artist from Fossil Downs, near Fitzroy Crossing in WA. He was an important influence and mentor at Mangkaja Arts, the art centre where Mandy Martin and Basil Hall worked with him in August 2008. At the ripe old age of over 90, this “WA Living Treasure”, as he was dubbed, was still producing exquisite watercolours at his desk, from which he presided over the Art Centre. We can’t mention his name at this time for cultural reasons, but a recent work is featured in the Custodians folio in our “Work for sale” section.
