World class music during a recent workshop on Skopelos

Costas Kalafatis is a world class musician, and each year he has entertained us at various tavernas and restaurants on the island during our printmaking workshops. With a variety of talented bouzouki players, he sings the famous rebetika songs of Greece, relating stories of struggle amongst the poorer classes, tales of war and oppression. It sounds like a gloomy subject for a dinner performance, but look at this photo and you’ll understand what a precious experience it is to hear Costas and his mates.
