Basil Hall Editions: Collagraphs at Nomad Art, April 2022

April 12, 2022 Basil Hall

Our next workshop for the year has been a Collagraph workshop at the new studios of Nomad Art in Avenel, Victoria. Conveniently located only 100 or so kms from Melbourne, Nomad studios are going to be a great place to come for lectures, gallery browsing and future workshops. There have already been two: one recently by legendary NT papermaker, Winsome Jobling and one last weekend by me. Nomad has a huge printmaking/art shed, a beautiful indigenous art gallery and lovely gardens. Avenel itself boasts a winery or two, fine dining, accommodation, tennis courts, a railway station and is just off the Hume Highway.

Oh, collagraphs! We had a great three days making marks, cutting, gouging, painting, sanding, building up and gluing our mat board plates and printing them on fine German and Japanese papers. This image shows some of the Day 1 tests on small plates. We managed a few three plate colour images on the very first day, too.

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
