An exciting Reconciliation mural project, initiated by Monique Silk (Art Co-ordinator for the St Vincent’s Hospital Group) has just been kicked off in Melbourne. Involving three Indigenous artists: Vicki Couzens (Vic), Jeffrey Samuels (NSW) and Bianca Beetson (Qld) and Basil Hall Editions, the project will comprise over 55 individual painted contributions by staff at the SVH hospitals in the three states. Once a series of workshops has been run and the work assembled, Basil will have the job of printing up an edition of silkscreen prints. The staff’s paintings (done on clear acetate) will be exposed directly onto a number of silk screens and hand printed at our studio in Canberra in August in readiness for the national launch of the large work. Each contributor researched what reconciliation meant to them and the positive energy and enthusiasm shown by the Melbourne group was inspiring, to say the least! Now it’s on to Sydney and Brisbane next week for the next instalment.
