Artists in residence at BHE Braidwood

January 19, 2016 Basil Hall

Sydney art teachers and exhibiting artists, Camille Softley and Emily Johnson have been working in Braidwood at BHE. Both have been making new etchings, with Basil in occasional attendance to advise or crank up the aquatint box. Camille’s new work will be seen this week in a group exhibition in Sydney, while Emily has been developing new prints from photographs of her paper constructions. Artists often come down to the Braidwood studio for a few days. We only charge for materials and hours when Basil is actually required for technical assistance. The studio has one large Hilton etching press, a fully ventilated aquatint box, etching facilities for zinc and a vacuum bed for photo exposures on plate.Camille

ABOUT BHE

For the last nineteen years Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, first from a purpose-built studio in Darwin, then from two studios: one in Braidwood, NSW and one in Canberra. In 2020 Basil moved all the equipment to Canberra. He and his team host visiting artists or travel to remote Aboriginal  communities, collaborating with over 100 artists a year, or other regional locations, offering workshops.
